Marvel's Avengers: A review
Before you start to grill me, no not the movie, the game that was extremely well awaited by all the marvel and superhero geeks, even gamers alike. Superhero video games haven't exactly been the cream of the crop but they always do have a big following and big numbers just from the names they have. In the movie and T.V. scene they are always crushing records, especially Marvel with their Avengers franchise. And they wanted to try to replicate their success in the gaming genre.
Like I mentioned before, there have never consistently been superhero games that have been able to make any sort of effect in the industry. Their games have always been okay with a pretty "eh" storyline and even more "eh" gameplay. However, they had recently been able to find their winning formula with their superhit " Marvel's : Spiderman " which really swooped the nation with its fun free roam ability, interesting storyline and realistic graphics. All they had to do was build on that formula. They did try but I still feel that the Spiderman game is something that they will never be able to compete with but this was a great game too.
As usual I will give my review without spoiling any of the story. It had a good storyline making Kamala Khan or Miss Marvel as the main character, however I found the story very reminiscent to the Age of Ultron in a lot of aspects. They chose a good villain but they didn't give him enough story. And important Marvel hero's like Thor and Black Widow just felt like side characters in this game. Their missions were challenging and the fights were fun.
The story does have it's teachable moments. It shows its audience the importance of family and togetherness and how things might not always seem like what they look or if you make a mistake, how you can right your wrongs. Also maybe this game was a little teaser for the upcoming Inhumans movie which was a major plotline of this game and gave the Marvel audience a little understanding of who the inhumans are or could be. It also had some cameos from Hank Pym, Nick Fury and even Commander Hill.
With all the things that are actually going on in the world, we fans, who had been pampered with multiple amazing movies in a year were deprived of them because of Covid. However their attempt to quench our thirst and keep us interested in the universe, this game does do it.
It took me 3-4 days to complete the game, but avid gamers could finish this game in a day or 2 tops. Or you could even space it out. The game hopefully won't die already because of its many side missions and ability to play online or multiplayer, aspects of the game I still have to try out. This however does give me reassurance that Marvel have kind of got down how to make good, if not great, games and hopefully they put out more with other characters on the Next and Current Gen consoles. Maybe their competitors take a page from their book and soon I could be playing maybe Injustice 3 or a new DC game completely.
I'd rate this game a solid 7 and a 1/2 out of 10 just for the story mode of the game. Its not the greatest but definitely good enough for your time and energy.
